The INTP, also known as iTS in Cognitive Personality Theory (CPT), is a highly analytical and introspective type characterised by their dominant Introverted Thinking (Ti), agency Introverted Sensing (Si), authority Extraverted Intuition (Ne), and oppositional Extraverted Feeling (Fe). This combination makes for someone who realises the potential of internal representations within a theme, ensuring deep logical clarity and fidelity.

Dominant Position: Introverted Thinking (Ti)

As the dominant function, Introverted Thinking (Ti) provides the INTP with a focus on internal logic and conceptual precision. This function excels at collating reliable nodes of data and building robust conclusions from the ground up, often employing formal logic to ensure consistency.

How it Feels: For the INTP, Ti dominance means constantly seeking new information that makes granular sense, is non-contradictory, and aligns with verified facts. They are driven to make their internal frameworks secure, verifiable, and consistent, which can span from understanding granular mechanisms to contemplating existential questions.

Agency Position: Introverted Sensing (Si)

In the agency position, Introverted Sensing (Si) provides the INTP with a sense of internal fidelity and clarity. Si is fast-switching and highly sensitive to what is interesting and what is not, ensuring that their internal representations are precise and accurate.

How it Feels: With Si as their agency function, INTPs can effectively manage and refine their internal knowledge banks, ensuring everything makes sense logically. They invest their ego in their ability to understand and control the nuances of their frameworks, making them meticulous and precise in their approach. This sensitivity can make them resist general education environments that do not cater to their specific interests.

Authority Position: Extraverted Intuition (Ne)

Extraverted Intuition (Ne) in the authority position acts as a guiding force for the INTP, providing a counterbalance of uncertainty. Ne instils a sense of curiosity and parallel thought patterns, encouraging them to explore new ideas and possibilities.

How it Feels: Ne in this position can feel like an internal compass, constantly pointing the INTP towards new themes and possibilities. This function helps them maintain a clear sense of curiosity and exploration, ensuring that their actions are aligned with their long-term goals, even if it means making difficult decisions along the way.

Oppositional Position: Extraverted Feeling (Fe)

In the oppositional position, Extraverted Feeling (Fe) serves as a delicate yet essential function. Fe provides the INTP with a sense of social awareness and harmony, ensuring their actions are aligned with the emotional states of others. However, it can also be a source of tension as it generates social observations that must be realised.

How it Feels: Fe in the oppositional position often feels like a subtle, yet powerful source of nervous excitation driving the INTP’s reflections. While it can be a source of internal conflict due to its sensitivity which can result in avoidant social adaptations, it also provides valuable insights into the true desires and motivations of others. This function encourages them to stay true to themselves, even as they navigate complex social landscapes.

Cognitive Dynamics and Dip Functions

The INTP’s cognitive dynamics are characterised by their ability to refine and maintain their internal concepts and frameworks through Ti-Si. This type excels at creating a stable and reliable internal world, ensuring their sense of self and understanding remains strong and consistent.

Dips:

TiSi - FiNi: Extending the purity of internal definitions and knowledge banks into what genuinely resonates with the self on an excitational level. This dip helps the INTP gain a deeper understanding of their internal motivations and how they align with their broader goals.

TiSi - TeSe: Execution of rehearsed mechanistic precision in the external world. This dip allows the INTP to use their dynamic presence and organisational skills to build strong relationships and alliances.

FeNe - TeSe: Stepping into a leadership role after calmly assessing the needs of the situation. This dip helps the INTP develop and showcase their abilities in social settings, often leading to a demonstration of their skills and knowledge.

Conclusion

The INTP (iTS) is a highly individualised type extremely adept at autodidactic learning. Their dominant Introverted Thinking (Ti) drives them to create a vivid and expansive internal world, while their agency Introverted Sensing (Si) ensures their conceptual frameworks are meticulously managed. The authority Extraverted Intuition (Ne) provides a counterbalance to the logically confident dominant pairing which ensues a more open mind as well as parallel processing of alternative viewpoints, and the oppositional Extraverted Feeling (Fe) ensures a quiet social intelligence. Together, these functions create a personality that excels at erecting complex frameworks of knowledge and following their own unique path.
